Textbook Returns and Refunds

If you purchased textbooks, kits, and/or supplies that are no longer needed for the current semester, they must be shipped to the University Store for a refund. The customer is responsible for shipping costs. When shipping textbooks, kits, and/or supplies back, you must print and include a copy of the Textbook Return Form. Please include this form with your return and verify all conditions stated below are met for your return.

Full Refunds

For a full refund, books, kits, and/or supplies must be returned between move-in day and through the second day of week two of the semester.

Partial Refunds

For 75% refunds, books, kits, and/or supplies must be returned on the third day of week two of the semester.

Refund for 2nd Block Classes

For a full refund, books, kits, and/or supplies must be returned within a week of the beginning of class. No refunds are allowed after the end of the first week.

New Book Return Conditions

For a full refund, NEW books (rented or purchased) must be returned in original condition. NEW books written in, highlighted, or damaged will be refunded at 75% of the purchased price/rental fee.

Scratch Off or E-book Code Returns

NO refunds will be given on opened or exposed (scratch off) access codes. E-books CAN BE returned within 14 days of purchase IF less than 20% of the book has been accessed. Days are counted starting from the hour when the e-book was purchased. No refunds for e-books past 14 days or that have more than 20% accessed.

Auto Access Returns

Auto Access is digital content that is available in I-learn on the first day of class. Students can opt out of this material and receive a refund up until the last day to drop classes without receiving a ‘W’ on their transcript. Refunds will reflect on student account within 24 hours of opting out.

Other Info

A $2.00 fee will be charged to reprint a receipt or to re-shrink textbooks. If a textbook was part of a package, all components must be returned. For your protection, please check your purchase to ensure it is correct and complete (not defective or damaged).

Purchase Rental Books

To apply rental charges towards the purchase of rented books, the purchase must be completed before the end of the first block.

Shipping Textbook Returns

All conditions stated above apply to textbook returns shipped to the University Store. If returning textbooks within the full refund dates, the customer must cover all shipping costs. For ONLINE STUDENTS ONLY, the customer can print a return label at no cost to return rented books at the end of the semester. This label is only for students whose status is ONLINE not on campus.

General Merchandise Returns

When shipping merchandise back, you must print and fill out a copy of the Merchandise Return Form. Please include this form and verify all conditions stated above are met for your return.

In Store Returns

Items must be returned within 30 days of the date of purchase. Receipts are required for all returns. The product must be in the same condition as purchased with all packaging, manuals, accessories, and tags. Price adjustments will be awarded on items that have been marked down within 14 days of the purchase date. Items approved for return without a receipt will be credited at the estimated resale value.

Online Returns

Items may be returned if the postmark is within 30 days of date of purchase. The product must be in the same condition as purchased with all packaging, manuals, accessories, etc. All returns must have the packing slip and the original BYU-Idaho online sales receipt. The customer is responsible for all shipping costs on orders returned. The item must not be on the non-returnable items list.

Non-returnable Items

  • Textbooks (see textbook return policy above)
  • Technology items (see Technology manager for questions/exceptions)
  • Markdown or clearance items
  • Software or cosmetics that have been opened
  • Clothing that has been worn
  • Spirit T-shirts
  • Sheet music and music books - due to copyright laws
  • Graduation Regalia (Caps/Gowns/Tassels)
